By Liu Diangang and Mao Herong ( chinadaily.com.cn ) Updated: 2015-01-28 14:00:18

In the period when he worked as the vice director of Hubei Provincial Standing Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, he stayed close to the grassroots to do investigations and research, and then he made many proposals, wrote a lot of letters to the leaders of the relevant government branches and came up with many suggestions. In the 5th Political Consultative Conference of Hubei Province, he raised a proposal asking for permission from the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Hubei Provincial Government to set up an administration of TCM to rejuvenate the development of TCM in Hubei province. In 2006, the Administration of TCM of Hubei Province was successfully founded.

He was elected Chairman of the Hubei Association of TCM in 1986 and has worked with the Association for 27 years. During this time he helped to organize many international academic seminars and international conferences on TCM, which proved to be of vital importance, such as the International Academic Exchange Among Hubei, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and the International Congress on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Moreover, he sent correspondence to both the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Hubei Provincial Government, suggesting that the Li Shizhen Academic Conference should be held, Li Shizhen Academy should be established and the relevant research should be done, which laid a solid foundation for academic activities in commemoration of Li Shizhen across the country. What’s more, he had abundant publishing works, working as chief editor for Information of TCM in Hubei and Selected Works on TCM Culture, and so forth.

In recent years,Professor Li Jinyong has been making an in-depth analysis and doing research on the academic prospect of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He believes that TCM and Western medicine should not try to replace each other but should learn from each other and make up for each other’s weakness. “We must strive for the Chinese characterization of Western Medicine and the modernization of TCM,” he said. .He wrote and published many essays, such as “On the Constitute and Significance of the TCM Theoretical System” , “To Carry Forward the Characteristics and Advantages of the TCM; to Stimulate the Pride and Confidence of the Nation”, “On the Emergence of ‘the Integrity of Man and Nature’ Thought and the Ideological Characteristics of the TCM Culture”, “The Modernization of TCM with its Characteristics of Oriental Culture”, “Thoughts on the Integrated TCM and Western Medicine and the Modernization of TCM ” and “On the History and the Prospect of TCM”.
