Li Jinyong: Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Li Jinyong, a professor at Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was awarded the honorable title of "Chinese Medicine Master" in 2014. The event was sponsored by the Human Resources Department of Social Security, the National Health Planning Commission, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Li Jinyong, whose courtesy name is Zuo Fei, born in ZaoYang county (Zao Yang City today) in Hubei Province, is a famous contemporary expert and great master of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Professor Li has made great achievements in every field of TCM, especially in the study of classical medicine books, so he is honored as "master of classics", "master of Nei Jing" and "a walking dictionary of TCM".

Professor Li attended old-style private school at the age of 7. He grasped comprehensive knowledge of Confucian classics, such as the Analects of Confucius and Mencius and he was gifted with an extraordinary retentive memory. In 1939, he learned medicine from his father and read books written by various experts of different generations and monographs of different subjects. In 1942, he began to study medicine and assisted his father in diagnosis. He was involved in the work of TCM in 1947, and began to practice medicine independently in 1950.

In 1954, Professor Li studied western medicine in Hubei Extension School of TCM, and graduated in 1955. In the same year, he began to work in the TCM Department of Hubei Health Bureau. In the spring of 1957, he was transferred to teach in Hubei Extension School of TCM and continued teaching after the school was renamed Hubei College of TCM.
