The official train ticket-booking website www.12306.cn will block ticket-booking plug-ins on its site, Beijing News reported. The website released its own app for smart phones earlier this month. The app is different from other existing apps, and does not refresh updated information about the availability of tickets.

In the ongoing college entrance exam reform, the Ministry of Education says the English test is expected to be given separately, with a total score of 120 points, Wang Dinghua, a ministry official told Beijing News.

In the past, the English test was worth 150 points of the total gaokao score.

4G iPhone 5s

China Mobile will start taking pre-orders for 4G iPhone 5s on its website, www.10086.com, starting Thursday.

Zhang Guoli to host gala

Chinese actor Zhang Guoli will probably host this year's Spring Festival Gala (also known as chunwan) and perform kuaiban, a Chinese traditional talk show recited to the rhythm of bamboo clappers, Jiangsu's Yangtze Evening Post reported.

Spring Festival Gala directors said they would revive some folk customs at this year's show.

Restaurant hotline

The Beijing Administration for Industry and Commerce set up a hotline for people to complain about six unfair practices by restaurants, such as charging for bringing your own liquor, sterilized utensils and separate rooms.

Firefighters admit beating

A firefighting crew in Wuhai, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, admitted that five new recruits were beaten, and local government said they would punish the people involved after an investigation,.CCTV reported.

A video spread on the Internet on Monday, showing eight firefighters beating five younger firefighters for nearly 16 minutes, while the latter were not fighting back. The firefighting branch in Wuhai said the incident took place in June 2012.
