The first Guizhou Penjing Expo is ongoing at Guizhou Botanical Garden in Guiyang, Guizhou province, through Aug 25. Nearly 1,000 potted landscapes, by enthusiasts from all over Guizhou are displayed. Experts from the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture will select the gold, silver and bronze prize winners.
Penjing is the ancient Chinese art of depicting artistically formed trees, other plants, and landscapes in miniature. It is similar to the Japanese tradition of bonsai.
