Ceramic whiteware from Dehua Kiln in Fujian province is famous for its light and thin body as well as its smooth glazed color. As important trade goods between the East and West on the "Maritime Silk Road" in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, it is highly praised by foreigners as "China-white ceramic", or "Velvet-white ceramic".

Zhu Fangfang, curator of the Fujian Folk Museum, said that "Dehua kiln is expert in figure sculpture ceramic, especially Taoism and Buddhism figurines. We can see the meticulous portrayal of the characters' facial expression and their overall shape, even the folds of clothing are elaborated molded."

The porcelain exhibition co-hosted by Wuhan Museum and Fujian Folk Museum displayed 111 pieces of porcelain, among which many could date back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The exhibition, now ongoing at the Wuhan Museum, will run through Sept 15.
