Adorable monk went viral

Photos of a one-year-old "monk" from Xichan Temple in Fuzhou, Fujian province went viral as soon as they were posted by a netizen with the screen name "momov" on Weibo.com, a Twitter-like microblog site on Sunday. The adorable kid dressed as a little monk captivated netizens’ attention and the post was forwarded more than 30,000 times by netizens in one day.

Horrible way to train dog swimming

A dog was seen struggling in the river with a rope tied around its neck, with the other end tied up to a boat in the Minjiang River in Fuzhou, South China's Fujian province on Sunday, fjsen.com reported.

Passersby shouted at the shore, expecting that someone inside the boat would save the dog as the boat didn't pull into the shore. Surprisingly, a man came out of the cabin, pulled the rope and lifted the dog on board, saying that he was just training his dog to swim.

Dead butterfly fairy

Baotianman Reserve was criticized by the public after a report said that reserve officials

pinned living butterflies on a dress and presented their model as a "butterfly fairy". On Monday, the scenic site responded that they used dead butterflies and those butterflies were artificially bred，bought from Beijing, according to xinhuanet.com.

Baotianman Reserve launched its first butterfly festival last Saturday, To ensure visitors have a visional feast at the opening of the festival, the site purchased thousands of butterflies. It planned to release but a large number of them died during in transit.

Naked Mona Lisa portrait on show

A portrait of a semi-nude woman with an enigmatic smile was displayed in an exhibition held in Hefei city, Anhui province of East China on Saturday. According to PR Newswire, it is a hidden work attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, which was once collected by Napoleon’s family.

Though the painting showed a remarkable resemblance to the Mona Lisa theme, according to qiwb.com.cn, art experts have different opinions on whether Leonardo da Vinci did paint a similar nude Mona Lisa, but not this one, which, they believe, was created by his imitators.

Bank to share blame for theft of money

A bank in Dongguan was ordered recently to compensate a customer's loss in a debit card fraud, Southern Metropolis Daily reported on Monday.

The bank notified the customer, surnamed Yan, of security risks and locked his card in January. Yan unlocked it for convenience, after which 39,900 yuan ($6,388) was withdrawn by a thief. The court said the bank's notification alone was not enough to prevent the fraud and required it to shoulder 60 percent of Yan's loss.

Phony lawyer caught in Chengdu

A woman who had long practiced law in Chengdu turned out to be an imposter using the name of a real lawyer. The imposter was found out only after the real lawyer, who was disguised as a client, asked the imposter for help in an economic case. The fake lawyer, who had no qualifications and did not know much about law, had to apologize for her wrongdoing, West China Metropolis Daily reported.

High school student commits suicide

A high school student in Pingyang county killed himself by jumping into a river, people.com reported on Monday.

The boy, considered the best student at his school by his classmates and teachers, was found dead in a river near his school. He had left a piece of paper on his desk with only some numbers in code, which when deciphered, said, "I am in water". Police have ruled out homicide.

39 animals exchanged for Asian elephant

A zoo in Shijiazhuang traded 39 of its animals for an Asian elephant from Kunming, Yunnan province, Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported on Monday.

The female elephant - whose name is Aobao - is 7 years old, 1.8 meters tall, 2.2 meters long and weighs 1.5 metric tons. Aobao was exchanged for 13 animal species, including giraffes, tigers, jackals and white storks, worth more than 1 million yuan ($160,300).
