Production of Johnny Depp's film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been shut down in Australia and the crew laid off while Depp recovers from surgery on his broken wrist in the US.

Depp broke his wrist while go-karting the Gold Coast. Filming of the Disney film - the fifth in the series - was put to halt after Depp's injury.

About 200 of 400 crew members have stood down. The 51-year-old is expected to return to Australia in mid-April when filming begins again.
