Rare Tang Dynasty pottery on display in Shaanxi

A tri-colored glazed pottery ware is on display at an exhibition at the Shaanxi History Museum, March 22, 2016.

An exhibition was officially kicked off at the Shaanxi History Museum on Tuesday to show the latest research results on Tang Dynasty tri-colored glazed pottery and rare such pottery ware unearthed in Xi'an and Luoyang cities.

The exhibition was organized by the Shaanxi History Museum in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province and the famous ancient capital of the Tang Dynasty, and the Luoyang Museum in Henan province, as well as another six museums and archaeological institutes, to share the academic, artistic and intellectual knowledge of the tri-colored glazed pottery made in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

According to the Shaanxi History Museum, the three-month exhibition tells the origin, classification and artistic characteristics of the tri-colored glazed pottery made in Chang'an (Xi'an's ancient name) and Luoyang. It also offers a perspective of its important position in the history of Chinese ceramics, as well as its cultural origins in the Tang Dynasty.

A number of tri-colored glazed pottery wares made in the Tang Dynasty were displayed and a lecture about the production and culture of the colorful pottery was given by archaeologist Zhuo Zhenxi after the opening ceremony in the museum.

The exhibition also includes a variety of interactive games to help the audience better understand the pottery's history and culture.
