Supermarket investigates worm-infested Cadbury candy

BEIJING - A store that has been in the news for selling worm-infested Cadbury chocolates said on Monday that it is investigating the incident.

A Beijing customer was startled to find worms inside Cadbury Chocolate Eclairs bought as his wedding candy from a CSF supermarket on Yuquan Road in the west of the city on July 5.

Fan Shuo, publicity manager for CSF Market, confirmed the media reports, said the store had taken candies of the same batch off the shelf and contacted the supplier for an explanation.

However, it is still waiting for a reply, Fan said.

Kraft Foods, Cadbury's parent company, told China Business News (CBN) that it was investigating and would not disclose any information until a probe was complete.

According to the CBN report on Monday, the customer, surnamed Yi, said what he found in the candy appeared to be "worm shells and feces".

Yi had returned the tainted eclairs, received a refund and purchased a different kind of candy at the store, according to Fan.

Cadbury, headquartered in London, is the world's second-largest confectionery company after Mars, Inc.
