A fine of up to 500 yuan ($74.9) will be imposed on drivers in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, if passengers in the back seats do not fasten safety belts, according to a new local traffic regulation.

The Shenzhen traffic police have dealt with more than 90 cases of passengers in the back seats who did not fasten safety belts since the regulation was put into trial operation on June 27.

Children under 4 years old are to use safety seats and those under 12 are not allowed to sit in front seats, according to the regulation.

Drivers will also have two marks deducted for each violation. A driver in China has 12 marks a year to be deducted in traffic violations.
