The Ministry of Education released a notice on its website Monday, asking all education departments and schools across China to conduct a campus overhaul to eliminate possible trouble that might be brought by chemicals.

The notice was released after an explosion at Tsinghua University's chemical laboratory on Friday killed a post-doctoral fellow on site.

According to the notice, the overhaul will focus on densly populated areas like dormitories, canteens, classrooms, lecture halls and libraries, as well as places where there are hazardous chemicals such as research and experiment sites, laboratories and storehouses.

The ministry said in the notice that a lot of other aspects related to students' daily life and study, such as heating system, school buses and food safety, should also be checked carefully to ensure students' safety.

"Local education departments and all levels of schools should also implement safety education programs and perform necessary training courses for their students. We need to teach the students how to avoid danger and how to rescue themselves if they are in dangers such as drowning and being caught in a stampede, especially because a series of festivals are coming shortly," the ministry said.
