Russian Federation Council approves accession of Crimea

MOSCOW - The Federation Council, or upper house of the Russian parliament, approved a treaty Friday on the accession of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, where the Russian Black Sea fleet is based.

The vote came one day after the State Duma, or lower house of the parliament, unanimously supported the treaty.
