China calls for Korean Peninsula stability

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-10-19 20:11

BEIJING - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei on Friday called on concerned parties to act in a way that will be conducive to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Maintaining stability on the peninsula is in line with the common interests of all parties concerned, he said at a daily press briefing.

The remarks came after Lee Myung-bak, president of the Republic of Korea (ROK), paid a surprise visit on Thursday to Yeonpyeong Island, an island located near the sea border the ROK shares with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
