Diplomatic relations established in May 1950

After a Danish-Chinese exchange of notes in May 1950 regarding the establishment of diplomatic relations, Denmark established an embassy in Beijing, while China reciprocated in Copenhagen.

The People's Republic of China's first ambassador in Denmark was Geng Biao who, in the 1980s, held positions such as vice-prime minister, minister of defense and vice-chairman of China's National People's Congress in the leadership.

Denmark's China-action plan

The government's plan of action was launched on October 20, 2008. It sets out priorities and concrete measures meant to promote Danish interests in cooperation with China. Political dialogue, research, innovation and educational cooperation are among the main priorities.

Denmark's strategic partnership with China

In connection with then-Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's visit to China from October 20-25, 2008, Denmark and China entered a comprehensive strategic partnership which set the tone for future cooperation between the countries.

The partnership identifies a series of focus areas where Denmark and China agree to intensify cooperation in future.
