4 killed in Karachi bomb blasts

ISLAMABAD - At least two people were killed and 14 others injured including three children and three women in another bomb blast on Saturday night that hit Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, local media and police said.

According to the reports, the bomb exploded at a political gathering of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), former ruling party of the country, in the Kaemari area of Lyari Town of Karachi, killing two people, including a child and a woman.

Police, rangers and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and the injured to the hospital, where few of the wounded were reportedly in critical condition.

Local media reported that PPP leader Adnan Baloch was addressing the gathering of common people for his election campaign when bomb exploded with a big bang.

PPP leader Baloch, his two brothers and another candidate for the general elections were also injured in the blast.

Following the blast, the whole area was engulfed in darkness as the electricity installments were damaged in the explosion.

The nature of the blast was unknown yet but police officials said that it might be an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that was fixed in a motorcycle parked nearby the gathering.

Many vehicles, motorcycles and shops were also damaged in the blast that spread panic among the locals of the area.

No group or militant organization claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

In another incident on Saturday night, a car bomb blast struck an office of political party Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) or United National Movement in the Qasba Colony area of Karachi, killed two people and injuring over 20 others.
