Road accident unveils man wanted for crime 26 years ago

A road accident in Luoyang, in Central China's Henan province, inadvertently led to the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred 26 years ago, dahe.cn reported on Wednesday.

A motorcycle rider who passed out after falling from his moving vehicle two months ago has been, after an extensive search, identified as a member of a gang that allegedly stole money from a mine owner in 1988. The rider's identity could not be established through a check of local household registry information, so the police launched an investigation to track down a regular contact person listed on his cellphone. Subsequently, it was discovered that the man who had fainted was the sole member of the robbery gang still at large. It has been alleged the gang had disguised themselves as policemen to "collect" 1,500 yuan ($244) from the mine owner.

'Blood Moon' feast in the skies over China

A total lunar eclipse will provide a wonderful one-hour show in the skies over China this evening, providing a "Blood Moon" feast for spectators, visible with the naked eye at 6:25 pm, the Beijing News reported on Wednesday.

The report quoted Kou Wen, a senior engineer with Beijing Planetarium, as saying that the whole process of the total lunar eclipse goes through five phases, which may take two to three hours starting from 5:14 pm. The most spectacular part of the change from when the total eclipse begins to when the total eclipse ends will last almost one hour from 6:25 pm.

Kou advises observers to pick an open, high place devoid of bright lights, or a landmark place, like the Summer Palace or the Palace Museum, to enjoy the only such celestial event this year.
