Artist Jiang Dahai showing abstract paintings

Chinese-French artist Jiang Dahai is exhibiting his grand and impressive abstract paintings at Beijing Yishu 8. Featuring an event for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sino-French ties, the solo exhibition, Beyond, Clouds, shows a fusion of Chinese and French art styles.

He was formerly a student from the oil painting department at the Central Academy of Fine, and went to France to study Western art in 1986. His shift from Realism to Modernism took a long time, and a decade had been passed before he got on track and established his own abstract style. In 2008, he came back to China with his mature abstract art.

The curator of the exhibition, Henry-Claude Cousseau described Jiang's painting technique as "A gesture of a hand that, with a brief stroke of the wrist, allows the brush to scatter a fine rain of drops that stain the painted surface of the canvas with delicacy."
