Some people seem to have an incurable dread of China becoming economically stronger. But what worries more minds these days is whether the world's second-largest economy can continue growing as it has over the past few decades.
By announcing that the country's defense budget is projected to grow by 7.5 percent this year, China has maintained a single digit growth in its military spending for four consecutive years. Such a growth pace is compatible with the country's comprehensive national strength and underscores its commitment to safeguarding both its national security and world peace.
THE GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE, the supreme audit institution of the federal government of the United States, released a report on Feb 27, which says that it found Confucius Institutes on US campuses play largely positive roles and assertions that they interfered with US academic freedom were unfounded.
