THE STANDING COMMITTEE of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, is deliberating on closing a loophole in the law to protect young girls from sexual predators after an increasing number of Chinese law experts called for the charge of "prostitution with underage girls" to be eliminated. If the measure is approved, any sex with girls under 14, regardless of their consent, would be considered rape, for which the penalties are harsher. Comments:
A FEMALE PATIENT who was injured when the hospital bed she was being examined on collapsed has taken the hospital to court, claiming compensation of 140,000 yuan ($21,800). The hospital says the bed collapsed because "she was overweight". Comments:

China's decision to hold a military parade on Sept 3 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II is causing the United States a headache. But the Barack Obama administration needs to show courage to send a high-level official delegation to attend the event even at the risk of offending Japan.
