Panasonic has provided $1.4 million in scholarships to 36 universities and colleges in China through a talent fund over the past 20 years, benefiting 8,706 students, according to the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

The Panasonic Yuying Fund was set up in 1995 when Panasonic donated $1 million to the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development through the China-Japan Friendship Association. It is intended to finance excellent students suffering financial difficulties in Chinese universities to finish college study and has covered top universities such as Peking University as well as those in less developed areas such as in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.

The fund has inspired many students to pursue excellence at school and after graduation, and serves as a symbol for the friendship and cooperation between the Chinese and Japanese peoples, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries said in a statement on Wednesday.

Panasonic Co will make more efforts to support exchanges between universities and enterprises and encourage students in Chinese universities, according to the company.
