High quality demanded for water project

Dedicated efforts will continue on China's massive South-to-North Water Diversion Project to ensure its high quality, according to the office in charge of the project.

"We'll keep a zero-tolerance attitude on any problems regarding the project's quality and prevent any possible potential risks from occurring," Zhao Shixin, a supervision official of the Office of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project Commission of the State Council, said on Tuesday.

The world's largest water-diversion project will take water from the water-rich Yangtze River in the South to the parched North, including cities such as Beijing and Tianjin, through its three routes, each more than 1000 kilometers long.

Parties involved in the project, including design, construction and supervision companies and individuals, are responsible for the quality of the project for their whole lives, according to a document released by the office earlier this year.
