HK to hold activities to mark National Day

HONG KONG - Celebration activities will be held in Hong Kong on Oct 1 to mark the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

These activities include a flag-raising ceremony and a National Day reception in the morning, and a cultural show and a fireworks display in the evening.

Chief Executive CY Leung will join 2,500 people at the flag- raising ceremony at 8 am at Golden Bauhinia Square outside the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

The Police Band and a school choir will perform the national anthem at the ceremony, followed by a sea parade and fly-past by the disciplined services. A designated area for 1,000 viewers will be set up for the public to watch the ceremony.

The Chief Executive will then host the National Day reception at the convention centre. About 4,000 guests will attend, including members of the Executive and Legislative Councils, consular corps, senior government officials, community group leaders, and members of various community sectors.

A cultural show will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom at 7 pm, followed by a 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour at 9 pm.
