Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and other parties, including the United States, will "begin comprehensive and in-depth deliberations" soon on a new UN Security Council resolution on Pyongyang's latest nuclear test.

Wang made the comment while addressing a joint press conference on Wednesday with visiting United States Secretary of State John Kerry.

"On the basis of necessary preparations, China will act in a responsible manner and have comprehensive and in-depth deliberations with the United States and other parties," Wang said.

"In the meantime, we need to point out that the new resolution should not provoke new tension in the situation or destabilize the Korean peninsula. Rather, the goal is to take the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula back to the right track of negotiation.

"Our goal should be bringing the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula back to the track of negotiation. That will be in the interests of all countries concerned and the people in the region".

In response to skeptical voices opposing China's role in resolving the nuclear issue, Wang said: "China is a responsible country so we will abide by all the UN Security Council resolutions we have voted for. There should be no doubt about it, and no one could question China on this.

"But we will implement the entirety of the Security Council resolutions, not just the specific formulations from them".
