DUBAI - The F-16 fighter jet squadron of United Arab Emirates (UAE) air force sent to Jordan earlier bombed the Islamic State (IS) targets on Tuesday, state news agency WAM quoted a UAE military source as saying.

The Gulf state's general command affirmed that the UAE jet fighters have completed their mission and returned safely to their base.

The report did not specify where the warplanes have bombed. Jordan has vowed "revenge" for the killing of its captured air force pilot Muazth Al-Kasasbeh who crashed with his aircraft in December last year.

Earlier report said that the UAE has suspended airstrikes in a U.S.-led coalition against the IS militants in Iraq and Syria shortly after the crash of the Jordanian pilot.

On Saturday, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the F-16 squadron in Jordan "displays UAE's support for Jordan's efforts and effective participation in an international coalition to battle the IS group.
