SINGAPORE- Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong updated a new post, both in English and Chinese, to extend his welcome for President Xi Jinping a few hours before Xi's plane touched down in the city state.

Looking forward to President Xi Jinping's visit, Lee wrote in the post, who also uploaded a photo of him shaking hands with Xi in Beijing last November, at the APEC Summit.

"In this SG50 year, Singapore and China are celebrating 25 years of diplomatic ties. We are working to deepen our friendship and cooperation. Will update with photos tomorrow," the prime minister ended the sentence with a smiley face.

The Chinese president arrived in Singapore on Friday afternoon. His Singaporean counterpart, Tony Tan Keng Yam, held a meeting with him, during which the two sides decided to lift ties and upgrade the current free trade agreement.
