YANGON - Chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi on Saturday called for ensuring Myanmar's stability ahead of the general elections.

Addressing the fifth meeting of the central committee held in Yangon, Suu Kyi expressed her wish to hold upcoming general elections in tranquil manner and implement people's desire after election period.

The NLD would announce whether it would compete in the upcoming election, she said, adding that the party will choose only those having enough qualification as its candidates.

The NLD party, established in September 1988 after the previous military's take-over of the state power, regained legal party registration on Jan. 5, 2012.

In the 2012 by-elections, the party won 43 out of the 45 open parliamentary seats, 37 in the House of Representatives (Lower House), four in the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and two in the region or state parliament.
