Malaysia detains 4 accused of posing naked at quake-hit peak

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Malaysian police have detained four Westerners accused of posing naked at the country's highest peak last month, just days before an earthquake killed 18 climbers on the mountain.

Sabah state police chief Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman says police obtained a court order Wednesday to detain them for four days while they're investigated for indecent behavior.

He didn't identify the four. Local media said they were two Canadian siblings as well as a Dutch male and a British male. They were believed to be part of a group of 10 people who stripped naked before taking photos at Mount Kinabalu on May 30.

A magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck near the mountain Friday, killing 18 climbers.

A Sabah official has blamed the tragedy on the foreigners for showing "disrespect to the sacred mountain."
