MOSCOW -- A Mi-8 helicopter with 12 people aboard disappeared in Russia's Tuva republic in southern Siberia, regional transport prosecutor's office said Friday.

"The helicopter disappeared 220 km east of (the republic's capital) Kyzyl," Interfax news agency quoted the prosecutor's spokesperson Oxana Gorbunova as saying.

She added the rescue team has been sent to that area by another Mi-8.
