Myanmar hosts series of ASEAN meetings in Yangon

YANGON -- Myanmar hosted a series of ASEAN meetings in Yangon over the past three days which included ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), Defense Officials Meeting, ARF Security Policy Conference and ARF Senior Officials Meeting.

According to a press release of the meetings published on Tuesday, the ARF defense officials' dialogue discussed the role of the armed forces in non-traditional security challenges as well as the role of the military in human security.

At the ARF security policy conference, ASEAN officials exchanged views on regional and international security situation and discussed contribution of armed forces to confidence building measures in the wake of growing friction among nations, while at the ARF senior officials meeting, they exchanged views on regional and international issues, reviewed confidence building measures and preventive diplomacy, recommend ARF experts and eminent persons as well as share updated information on implementation of the Hanoi Plan of Action to implement the ARF Vision Statement.

The meeting discussed activities and initiatives on confidence building measures and preventive diplomacy for the inter- sessional year 2014-15, ARF statements and work plans and ARF security outlook 2014 to be published in the upcoming 21st ARF scheduled for Aug 10, the release added.
