The two sides are finalizing the date for the meeting which is slated for the last week of September.

Obama reportedly delivered the invitation when he called Modi to congratulate on his win in India's elections.

The meeting is believed to be a thaw of relations after the US imposed a visa ban on Modi in 2005, holding him culpable of the Gujarat riots.

The process of rapprochement started in February, when the then US ambassador to India, Nancy Powell, met Modi, a PM candidate at the time.
