JAKARTA - An Indonesian senior figure said that thanks to voting support on Komodo Island in Indonesia's eastern province of East Nusatenggara, the island has been listed among world's seven wonders of nature, local media reported on Friday.

According to Komodo ambassador and former vice president Jusuf Kalla, the park received more than 200 million votes, sent via short text messages, adding that it took more than five months to count and verify all the votes.

"I thank all the Indonesians who loyally voted," Kalla said as quoted by the Jakarta Post.

The New 7 Wonders Foundation has named the Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara one of the seven wonders of nature.

President of New 7 Wonders Foundation, Bernard Weber, said earlier the number of votes for the Komodo Island to be ranked as one of the world's seven wonders showed how proud Indonesians were of their natural heritage.

The other chosen wonders of the world are Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and Jeju Island in South Korea, Iguazu Falls in Brazil, Puerto Princesa Underground River in the Philippines, Table Mountain in South Africa and the Amazon river.
