There's a popular saying in the theater circle: "Renyi is one half of Chinese modern drama history." The theater used its big day to mark the 100th anniversary of the Chinese modern drama through a pictorial exhibition.
The theater showcased 3,000 photographs to highlight the development of Chinese drama. The exhibit featured the achievements of 51 modern Chinese drama theaters during the past century, as well as their exchanges with overseas companies.
Also, photos showing the development of modern drama theaters from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were included to indicate the diversity of modern Chinese drama.
In particular, this pictorial exhibition introduced viewers to 10 iconic masters of modern Chinese drama, namely, Ouyang Yuqian, Guo Moruo, Hong Shen, Tian Han, Lao She, Xia Yan, Xiong Foxi, Jiao Juyin, Huang Zuolin and Cao Yu.
Ren Ming, vice president of Beijing People's Art Theater, said, "A nationality is pitiable without history, such as the prominent art form in China of modern drama. The exhibition helped our fellow dramatists and visitors to cherish the past, find their roots and, more importantly, be clear on how to develop the art."
