The fifth Beijing International Dance Festival was kicked off on 13, November and last to 23 December. Artists from different parts of the word brought 15 dancing shows .

The world famous Paul Taylor Dance Company, made a welcome return to Beijing. The Troup staged six selected repertoires including Esplanade, Black Tuesday, Cloven Kingdom, Company B, Promethean Fire, and Byzantium. All of the works, unique in their styles, are created in the post-1970s period.

A classic backstage story, 42nd Street tells of a young actress named Peggy Sawyerwho rises from a chorus girl to become a Broadway star. When it first opened on Broadway in 1980, 42nd Street ushered in a new age of theatrical spectacle with a cast of over 50 performers, hundreds of costumes and dozens of lavish stage effects. Based on the 1933 movie of the same name, the original production of 42nd Street ran for 3,486 performances and was nominated for several Tony Awards, winning two.

The classic Kunqu Opera has been translated into modern dance. Rather than a comedy of love and hate, this updated version speaks to the lives of contemporary Chinese women. In collaboration with multimedia artists, producers tried to interpret a classic love story from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) with a new vision and the theme is the role of human love caught between life and death, between reality and dreams.
