Art beat in August

Fifteen musicians from the Orchestra of the National Theater Mannheim, one of the most recognized orchestras in Germany, will present a chamber concert together with Chinese pianist Ge Hao. Mannheim has rich musical heritage dating back to the 1700s. The present music director is Dan Ettinger. Ge was gold winner of the European International Music Festival in 2003 and is now a professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Fan art

Art beat in August

Chinese people have been waving paper or silk fans to try and beat the summer heat for thousands of years. Artists have found the fan a handy medium for their creations and established their favorite subjects and styles of fan painting. Xu Yuan from Nanjing has carried on with the tradition to create new paintings to bring a cool wind.

Aura of Poetry

Art beat in August

This show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai features 10 artists exhibiting works that were mostly created for the show. The curators want visitors to be able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and fi nd a ray of light that breaks through the complexities of modern life, creating a crack in time that brings in hope and strength.
