WASHINGTON: Even the most avid of bird watchers can't always spot every tiny little difference.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and the "China-Sri Lanka Friendship Year," I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name, our warm congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency, and through Your Excellency, to the Sri Lankan Government and people.
Chinese and Sri Lankan peoples have established profound friendship through exchanges in the course of history.
I am grateful for the opportunity to undertake a State visit to the People's Republic of China in this "China-Sri Lanka Friendship Year," commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Sri Lanka recognized the People's Republic of China in fact in 1950 even before establishing full diplomatic relations with resident embassies in our respective countries.

There is a knock at the door and another family of smiling visitors arrive. They step across and hand over big bags of fruit, cakes or candy. After exchanging greetings or sharing dinner together, you show them out and just before they leave, the visitors may bring out a red paper envelope. "This is for your kid," they say.
XIAMEN: Almost every traditional Chinese festival is closely associated with food: zongzi for the Dragonboat Festival, mooncakes for the Moon Festival, and niangao (sticky rice cake) for the Chinese New Year.
GUANGZHOU: Special food, native to Central China's Hunan Province, has attracted crowds of buyers to the Huxiang Food Store in downtown Guangzhou.
