The government of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region gave 500,000 yuan ($80,000) as a reward to two groups of citizens who helped to fight terrorist activities and violent crimes, Xinjiang Daily reported on Wednesday. "Some people misinterpreted our instruction as not allowing press criticism in general, but in fact we have resolutely protected reporters' lawful professional rights and positively support media supervision via public opinion."
