Fifth Plenary Session of 18th CPC Central Committee

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, elected by the National Congress of the Communist Party of China, convenes at least one plenary session every year.


Oct 26 - 29, 2015 


Members of the CPC Central Committee, including members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attend the session.

The session will be presided over by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Major tasks

The economic development will be the central task, a people-centered approach will also be employed in the 2016-2020 plan, with the development of people's democracy, guarantees of social equity and justice through rule of law and encouragement for innovation.

The agreements coming out of the meeting include a regulation on clean governance and rules on sanctions of those who break party rules.

The plenary session will announce some candidates for a personnel reshuffle.

After the 5th plenary session of the 15th CPC Central Committee, the major topic has been the review of the five-year plan, and the time of the meeting has been set in October, usually lasting for three to four days.

A new Party leadership was elected, including the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and the Political Bureau.

The second plenary session - Feb 26 to 28, 2013

The plenum adopted a list of candidates for State leadership positions and a government restructuring plan.

The third plenary session - Nov 9 to 12, 2013

The session adpoted Decision on major issues concerning comprehensively deepening reforms.

The Fourth plenary session - Oct 20 to Oct 23, 2014

The session focused on the rule of law, the first time it was adopted as the major topic of the sessions.
