BEIJING - A photo album depicting the development of Esperanto in China has been published by the Foreign Languages Press (FLP), according to a press release issued on Sunday.

The album features 370 photos that chronicle the history and progress of the Chinese Esperanto movement over more than one century.

Text included in the album describes the promotion of Esperanto in China as one of the movement's achievements.

Hou Zhiping, chief editor of the album and a former executive director of the China Esperanto League, said the album is a tribute to the creator of Esperanto, Dr. Ludwig Lazarus Zemenhof, as well a commemoration of Chinese Esperanto pioneers, including founder of the China Esperanto League Hu Yuzhi and celebrated writers like Lu Xun and Ba Jin.

Esperanto was created 125 years ago by Dr. Zemenhof, a Polish ophthalmologist, with the intention of bridging language barriers. About 2 million people are proficient in the language.
