Malfunction causes delays on Line 1

Line 1 of the Beijing subway has resumed normal operation after a malfunction that lasted half an hour on Thursday morning, causing delays during the morning rush hour.

The malfunction occurred at 8:13 am between the Military Museum station and Fuxingmen station when a transformer station for Line 1 failed to provide enough power, according to a statement from Beijing Subway, an operator of the capital's subway system.

Normal operation resumed at 8:44 am after the operator took emergency measures, but the adjustment caused longer intervals between trains.

Intervals were extended from two to five minutes during the delay, which caused large crowds at some stations on Line 1, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Subway staff took measures to limit passenger flow and guide passengers at some stations, according to the statement.

Around 7.7 million passenger trips were made on Beijing's subway system on Wednesday, Beijing Subway said.
