HANOI - The friendly cooperation between the public security ministries of China and Vietnam should be strengthened, a visiting high-ranking Chinese official said in Hanoi on Thursday.

Chinese State Councilor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun, who is wrapping up his visit to Vietnam on Friday, made the remarks while meeting Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam on Thursday.

Trong's recent visit to China was a success, reaching important consensus with Xi Jinping, Chinese president and general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on strengthening mutual political trust and deepening win-win cooperation. The consensus has framed the next orientations for comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in politics, economy, trade, culture and security, said Guo during the talks.

The task of the visit to Vietnam is to implement the consensus, bringing words to practices and achievements. China expects to conduct well-rounded collaboration on securities with Vietnam and make active contribution to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, stated Guo.

Nguyen Phu Trong, on his part, asked Guo to convey his thanks to President Xi for his warm reception during his recent visit to China.

Vietnam and China enjoy a long history of traditional friendship and have similar development goals. Exchange and cooperation from all levels should be strengthened to face incoming challenges and achieve common prosperity, said Trong.

The CPV general secretary expressed the hope that Guo's visit would further improve the relationship between security ministries of the two countries and deepen the friendship between the two peoples.

Guo also called on Vietnam's defense minister and public security minister and attended the signing ceremonies of mutual cooperation documents on Thursday.
