At least 4 killed in clashes in Libya

TRIPOLI - At least four people were killed during Wednesday's clashes involving fighters from the Libya Shield, a group of militiamen affiliated to the current army forces, in Libya's Bani Walid, sources said.

Dozens of others were injured in the clashes in the town, some 180 km southeast of the capital Tripoli and one of a couple of last strongholds of forces loyal to slain former leader Muammar Gaddafi in last year's civil war.

Local reports quoted witnesses as saying that the town had been "shelled" during the day and the clashes ended during the evening.

Bani Walid, which still fights some remnant supporters of the fallen regime, also saw "small-scale clashes" on Oct 2 between a Libyan army unit and a militia group.
