Afghan police kill 8 Taliban within day

KABUL - Afghan police in conjunction with the national army and NATO-led troops have killed eight Taliban militants and arrested 23 others during series of operations across the country over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Afghan National Police, backed by the units of national army and the NATO-led Coalition forces launched seven joint cleanup operations in Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, Nangarhar, Helmand, Ghazni, Paktiya and Parwan provinces over the past 24 hours which left eight rebels dead and injured another," the press release added.

The police also arrested 23 Taliban fighters during the operations, it further said.

There were no casualties on the security forces, according to the press release.

Taliban militants fighting the government and NATO-led force are yet to comment.
