The first Italy-China Biennale of Contemporary Art kicked off last weekend in Monza, suburban Milan.

The largest exhibition of its kind, it encompasses works by 120 vanguard artists from China and Italy.

The works on display range from drawings, paintings, sculptures and photographs to video works.

The works tackle the same theme - the consequences of human activities and how humans have affected the environment through urbanization, pollution, and exploitation of resources.

The nonprofit art project has been initiated by art organizations, including the Being 3 Gallery in Beijing's 798 Art Zone and the Aikal Gallery in Monza, Italy, "to create comparisons and dialogues between different cultures".

The exhibition runs until Dec 16.
