Xinjiang suffers record temperatures

China's average daily temperature during July was a little higher than the annual average but some regions in northwestern areas saw extremely high figures recorded, the China Meteorological Administration said on Tuesday.

Since July 8, the majority of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has experienced daily temperatures above 38 C and exceeding 40 C on many days.

On July 22, the region saw its entire 753,000 square kilometers bathed in heat higher than 38 C, a new record, the administration said.

In some cities in Xinjiang, extremely high temperatures have lasted for 20 days.
