LONDON -- A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences before boarding a plane at Gatwick Airport here, police said.

The man was detained by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit and searches are being carried out at two addresses in Birmingham, Britain's West Midlands Police said.

A 20-year-old woman was also arrested in west London on Monday "for Syria-related offences."

There is "no risk to any passengers at Gatwick Airport or to the wider public in relation to these arrests," police said.
