ISLAMABAD - A Pakistani court on Saturday afternoon ordered to register a murder case against 22 persons including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif.

They were all charged for alleged involvement in the June 17 firing incident by police that killed 14 protesters in the country 's eastern city of Lahore, local media reported.

A Session Court in Lahore hearing the case filed by the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) ordered police to register a murder case against the 22 persons including PM Sharif, and Chief Minister of Punjab province Shahbaz Sharif, police officers and other government officers, the reports said.

At least 14 party workers including two women of the PAT were killed and 84 others injured by bullets fired by police during a protest turned violent in the Model Town area of Lahore on June 14, 2014.

The provincial government formed a single member inquiry commission to probe into the incident, but the PAT boycotted the commission and filed a petition before the court to register case against the authorities including Sharif.

According to the reports, the commission had already submitted its report one week before to the CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, but the government could not decide to make it public so far.

No government statement or response has been issued on the court's order yet.

The court order came at the time when tens of thousands workers of the PAT led by party chief Tahir ul Qadri have reached Islamabad on Friday morning to press the PM to resign from his post.
