New Bank of England governor announced

LONDON - Mark Carney, the current Canadian central bank chief, is chosen to take over the reins as Governor of the Bank of England (BoE), the central bank of Britain, next year, British finance minister George Osborne announced on Monday.

The banker is replacing outgoing BoE Governor Mervyn King.

"He is acknowledged as the outstanding central banker of his generation," Osborne said of Carney, while announcing his choice of the central bank's new head to the House of Commons.
