VLADIVOSTOK - Representatives of universities from nearly 10 countries gathered in Russia on Thursday to discuss the new functions of universities, RIA Novosti news agency reported.
Lasting for two days, the conference "Science and education in the 21st century: the function of the university in the innovational development of the region" opened in Russian Yakutsk city's Northeastern Federal University.
The conference was attended by representatives of universities and research institutes from countries including Russia, the United States and Canada.
The conference will feature universities' functions as the center of regional human resource development and the "think-tank".
In addition, the conference will discuss the role of the university as a guide and transmitter of the new ideas, as well as the models of "the new university of the new time" which supported the formation of the strategic partnership between science, education and business.
