A booby-trapped car with an explosive device under it, went off Sunday morning near a police station at Bab Tuma district in the Damascus, sources told Xinhua.

The blast came amid UN-Arab League representative Lakhdar Brahimi's visit to Syria, where he is pushing for a cease-fire during the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, or the festival of sacrifice.

At a press conference held Sunday in Damascus, Brahimi appealed to all conflicting parties that they observe the cease-fire in a bid to build a permanent pacification.
