2 Chinese rescued from kidnapping in Philippines

DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Two Chinese nationals were kidnapped but later rescued by the police in southern Philippines on Monday, local police and officials said.

One of the suspects was killed and a policeman was wounded following a gunbattle in Barobo town, Surigao del Sur province, said provincial governor Johnny Pimentel.

The victims are engaged in gold mine operations in Barobo.
